How are the Fitness & Exercise Systems different from the Original Endless Pool?

Our Fitness and Exercise systems are single-shell, molded acrylic models that arrive pre-plumbed and pre-wired; since they are pre-assembled, they're best suited to outdoors and new construction. The Original Endless Pools series are fully modular; all components fit easily through standard doorways and down stairs. That lets you install almost anywhere, from basements to rooftops, including existing rooms. To explore the differences in the look, swim current, and more, please visit our Comparison page.

How easy is it to install an Endless Pool?

The compact size of our pools makes them easy to install. We have a nationwide network of Factory Trained Installers who are available to install your pool. If you are handy you can do it yourself, or hire a local contractor. The Fitness and Exercise Systems (swim spas) requires very little installation - in most cases you can be swimming the day it arrives. Where can I install an Endless Pool?

The Endless Pool can be installed in virtually any ground-floor space in your home. Existing spaces like basements and garages are particularly suitable as the modular design of many of our pools allows them to fit through standard doorways. In warmer climates the pool is often installed in the backyard, or on a patio or deck. Our pools can be installed fully above ground, partially in-ground or fully in-ground. Our line of Fitness and Exercise Systems arrive fully assembled; these swim spas can be installed outdoors, in garages, and in new construction.

Can I try a pool before I buy?

How much does it cost to operate?

The ability to enjoy all the benefits of warm water year-round, at low cost, is one of the real advantages of an Endless Pool. The operating costs are about the same as for a hot tub. Costs can be controlled by utilizing the appropriate level of insulation for your geographic location, maintaining an ambient temperature in the pool room, and keeping the pool covered when not in use, etc.

What maintenance is required?

Unlike a traditional pool, an Endless Pool requires very little maintenance, on average a few minutes each week to test the water and add some regular household bleach. Also, the Endless Pool cartridge filter needs to be replaced every three to six months, depending upon pool use. The inexpensive mineral cartridges used to kill bacteria and other contaminants also need to be replaced every three to six months.

What about humidity for indoor installations?

Humidity is always a concern when you bring a body of water indoors. Because the Endless Pool is small in size, it is easy to control humidity by keeping the pool covered when not in use. A floating blanket, which can control about 90% of the humidity, is included as standard equipment. The optional Retractable Security Cover can control 100% of the humidity when in place. Does the Endless Pool really work?

It really works! You really can swim or exercise in place against a current set at a speed you select, for as long as you like. No more trips to a membership pool. Imagine the convenience of being able to swim in the privacy, comfort and safety of your home anytime day or night. Because the current holds you in place, you never reach the end of your Endless Pool. This unique swim-in-place feature allows the Endless Pool to be much smaller than a conventional pool, while providing all of the benefits of a full-size pool. The Endless Pool is so carefree it even maintains your favorite water temperature automatically!

Is it difficult to keep the pool clean?

The Endless Pool uses a new mineral purifier to help sanitize the pool water. This system automatically adds ions to the water to inhibit bacteria growth. You must still use a small amount of chlorine to oxidize the contaminants. In most installations, a cup or less of unscented household bleach after each swim is sufficient. This amount of chlorine is substantially less than the amount needed in a typical chlorinated pool. Our ultra-violet water purifier (optional) provides a chemical-free method of destroying organic pollutants. The UV option further reduces the need for chemical sanitizers such as chlorine.

Can I use a Salt System with an Endless Pool?

While in theory, Saltwater Pools are a fine idea, there are several obstacles that keep this type of system from being the ideal solution for your Endless Pool. Saltwater Pool Systems still need chlorine to oxidize the pool contaminants, involve greater upfront and maintenance costs, and produce corrosion to pool equipment. Endless Pools uses a simple to use, inexpensive mineral sanitizer that greatly reduces the need for chlorine. We also offer a UV Water Purifier (that can be used in conjunction with our mineral sanitizer) to further reduce the need for Chlorine. As with Salt Systems you still need to use a small amount of Chlorine - we recommend regular household bleach such as Clorox - in order to burn off contaminants and body oils. In fact, the levels of chlorine in our water is lower than the allowable limit for drinking water so your home will not smell like the local Y.

How fast is the current?

The current can go as slow or as fast as you want with the touch of a button. At top speed, the equivalent swim would be 1:08/100 yards or a mile without turns in 20 minutes. We also offer a Performance model with a top speed of 1:05/100 yards. Our Elite model uses a 7.5 hp motor, 2 propellers and a wider opening to create the fastest current available in any swimming machine. With a top speed of 0:51/100 yards it is suitable for competitive swimmers and is used by many of the top collegiate programs and coaches in the world.

How often do I have to change the pool water?

The Endless Pool is filled with a garden hose. The water is changed every one to two years, depending upon use.

Is there architect and designer support from Endless Pools?

Our in-house staff of architects, professional designers and engineers is available to help plan the pool of your dreams. If you can take a photo of your proposed pool site, we can send you an "After" photo with a pool superimposed on your photo. We can even provide a drawing of your proposed pool.

Can I do water aerobics?

Yes, an Endless Pool is ideal for waist deep aquatic exercise. Our optional deeper pools are suitable for non-swimming vertically oriented water workouts. We offer pools ranging in depth from 39" to 6' for deep-water running with a wet vest.

How does the Endless Pool compare to a lap pool?

Personal lap pools are usually one lane wide, about 3'-6' deep and usually require a 50' to 75' length to satisfy most serious swimmers. The Endless Pool takes up much less space, is simpler to install (particularly indoors), easier to maintain and more economical to run than a traditional lap pool.

Can two people swim at the same time?

Our Dual Propulsion Endless Pool comes with two independently controlled variable speed swim currents which enables two people to swim side-by-side at the same time.

Is it hard to swim in the Endless Pool?

It usually takes only a few seconds to learn how to swim "against the current." Most first-time swimmers are so thrilled by seeing how easy it is that they pop up and say with a big smile, "this thing really works!"

What sizes are available?

Our pools come in a wide range of sizes from 6' x 6' for our smallest Waterwell Pool up to 16' x 16' for our Dual Propulsion Endless Pool. Many of our pools have a modular design and can be made wider, longer and deeper.

How does the swim current operate?

The swim current is generated by a 16" propeller inside a protective acrylic case that is driven by a 5 hp hydraulic motor. The current is adjustable in speed from zero to a racer's pace. The Endless Pool current is much superior to currents generated by jets. The Endless Pool propulsion unit can move a huge amount of water - up to 5,000 gallons a minute - under low pressure from a large opening (21"x16") producing a river-like current. Our Performance and Elite models use two propellers and a larger 24" x 18" opening to move more water, creating a smoother, deeper, and faster current.

Can I use it as a hot tub?

The Endless Pool can be fitted with optional jets to create a spa-like environment. Our line of Fitness and Exercise Systems are molded acrylic swim spas featuring ergonomic hydromassage seats. All Endless Pools are primarily intended for water exercises and fun including swimming, aqua-aerobics, and aquatic therapy. It is not generally advisable to exercise in water that is warmer than 90°F.

How deep is the pool?

The depth of the water in our standard pool is 39", which is the standard depth of a lap pool. This depth is sufficient for most swimming activities. We offer pools in many depths ranging from 39" up to 6', depending on the model you choose. Our Fitness and Exercise Systems are molded acrylic swim spas and range in depth from 50” to 58” depending on the model.

What is the minimum room size needed to install an Endless Pool?

As a general rule, the room for an Endless Pool needs to be 2' wider and 3' longer than the size of the pool. This would mean that a minimum room size for an 8' x 15' Original Endless Pool would be 10' x 18'.

Can I get trapped in the current?

No. The current of the Endless Pool is confined to the center of the pool. If you want to get out of the current, all you have to do is take one step sideways out of the current into calm water. The pool has been tested by NSF and is VGB 2008 compliant.

What if I relocate? Can I take my Endless Pool with me?

Yes, you can take your Endless Pool with you. Many of our pools are shipped in kit form for bolt-together assembly and can be unbolted and relocated to a new site. Each time the pool is relocated, there are some parts and components that may have to be replaced.
